Philip Anthony McCarthy was born In Togher on the south side of Cork city in 1975.

He is currently involved in the film industry as an actor, writer and director-producer, Philip is a winner of the Samuel Beckett Award for Best Script and a number of other awards for both theater and film.   Philip’s short film, The Dark Room, was selected for the Short Film Corner in Cannes in 2011

Philip has been involved in Drug & Suicide Awareness In Cork City and can contribute much to this most serious problem in our city – he himself being a recovered victim of such circumstances himself.

Philip has turned to politics because he is well equipped to make a difference.  He has joined with others who have signed THE PEOPLE’S CONTRACT, and is committed to ensuring that our communities are the ones who run Cork City.

Personal Statement:

My principal contributions in this local election are in 1) The Arts 2) Reasonable job training for young people for reasonable jobs 3) Better housing for the elderly and disabled and living alone people 4) Restructuring of the homeless policies 5) More education on drug awareness and suicide awareness In schools 6) The Abolishment Of the ‘whip’ system In Cork City Council, the end of co-opting of Councilors and the Lord Mayor to be elected by the people of Cork, and seek a reduction of the Lord Mayor’s salary.

Primarily, I am happy to be part of the movement of People’s Candidates and part of the movement which promises real change in our city and country.
